Harrow School in North London is famous for its idiosyncratic style of straw boater, worn on weekdays with a dark blue suit. On Sundays Harrow boys wear formal tailcoats, but usually go bareheaded.

The King's School, which is situated in the ancient cathedral city of Rochester in Kent, dresses its pupils in a very traditional style. Boys in the preparatory division are outfitted in traditionally styled caps, regulation pullovers and short trousers, together with a double-breasted gabardine raincoat, whilst boys of the senior school may wear stylish blazers and straw boaters.

Since the abandonment of the Eton suit in 1967 all the pupils at England's most famous public school have worn tailcoats with a waistcoat and striped trousers. There have been occasional calls to abolish this outfit as well, but these have been successfully resisted. To quote from one of the many books about the school: 'The majority of older boys, like the pupils of Christ's Hospital whose dress is even stranger, favour retention of their uniform...There is no better cure for self-consciousness...than to walk the streets for five years in tails.'
